An Introduction To Nintendo Gaming

Introduction to Nintendo Gaming

One of the oldest and most recognizable brand names in video game entertainment, Nintendo Co. Ltd. of Kyoto, Japan is also one of the most lucrative and successful. The Nintendo brand name dates all the way back to 1889 and the introduction of “Hanafuda” playing cards. From its meager beginnings, Nintendo grew to become the largest company in the business producing best selling video game hits like Super Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda and even Pokemon. Ask almost any video gamer today where he/she got her start, and the answer will probably be Nintendo.

Nintendo Gaming Systems

Nintendo offers a plethora of gaming systems to choose from. The progression of Nintendo gaming systems from earliest to latest is as follows:

  • Nintendo ES
  • Super Nintendo ES
  • Nintendo 64
  • Nintendo GameCube
  • Nintendo Revolution (soon to be released 2006)

Handheld platforms of Nintendo’s gaming systems include:

  • Nintendo GameBoy
  • Nintendo GameBoy Advance
  • Nintendo DS

Nintendo saw a brief lull in sales in between the release of the Nintendo 64 gaming unit and the Nintendo GameCube unit due to the heaviest amount of competition the gaming industry had ever seen through the likes of Sony PlayStation / PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Xbox. As it is, Nintendo is back among the elite gaming system producers and looks to challenge both Microsoft and Sony in the coming year with the release of their newest and most advanced gaming system to date, the Nintendo Revolution.
