Streaming Music Over Your Broadband Connection
Streaming Music – What is it?
Streaming music is music files which are “streamed” to your computer over a high-speed Internet connection. “Streamed” simply means that you can listen to the song or audio file without having to download the entire file first – instead, you listen to the audio file as it is being downloaded. In most cases, streaming music is music that has already been pre-recorded. It is possible, however, to listen to streaming music that is playing live – such as at rock shows!
Listening to Streaming Music with a Music Player and Broadband Internet
First, you’ll need to have a music player on your computer. There are a few to choose from, and all are easily downloaded (and free!). Some are better than others, however, so it’s a good idea to take a look on the Internet for product reviews and user opinions. One good option for a player is Winamp. Rhapsody and RealPlayer are excellent as well, and free.
Now that you have a good quality streaming music player, you’ll also want to have a high-speed Internet connection such as cable, DSL or satellite. Otherwise, you either won’t be able to stream the music at all or the quality will be really poor. As soon as you click on a particular song, the song should begin playing on your computer. It’s that easy!
Sites to Check Out for Streaming Music
There are literally hundreds of sites that offer streaming music and audio, but like most programs, some are better than others.
A good site is Shoutcast.com. To use Shoutcast, all you have to do is click on the music or audio file you want to listen to, and so long as you have a music player installed, you’re good to go! You’ll also want to make sure you select your connection speed and the type of music you’re looking for, so that your sound quality is the best it can be.
Another good site is www.RadioMOI.com. This site has a large selection of streamed music, as well as radio stations. Radio stations are another great thing to listen to in this category, and just like streamed music, you can listen to streamed radio from all over the world in every possible language you can imagine! For lists of the best streaming music and streaming media sites, simply go online and type in “streaming music sites” into any search engine.
Streaming music is just one more way a high-speed Internet connection can help you use and enjoy the Internet the way you want to, when you want to.
