More People Turn to the Web to Watch TV

Television and the Internet are two of the most widely used forms of media in our society today.  It is almost commonplace to combine the two forms of media by watching TV on the Internet.

There are thousands of live television broadcasts to choose from over the Internet.  From your local news and weather, to International broadcasts from countries all over the world, you will definitely find a program to your liking.  Internet TV is also known as Web-over television services, Net TV, TV-based Web browsing, TV Internet system, Web over TV, TV Internet access device, WebTV device, and simply - Web TV.

How Does Internet TV Work?

Internet TV allows you to request on-demand programs and broadcasts over the Internet.  The way this works is through audio and video streaming.  Streaming involves the use of pre-recorded moving images and audio that are compressed and then sent over the Internet and presented to the viewer.  Streaming is highly advantageous to Internet TV because nothing has to be downloaded, which would be a slow process.  Instead, the content is sent in a compressed form continuously over the Internet.  The viewer watches the content through a player, which takes the role of uncompressing this content and presenting it in its original form to Internet TV viewers everywhere.

System Requirements for Watching Internet TV

To watch most types of TV broadcasts over the Internet, you must have a high speed Internet connection of at least 28.8 Kbps.  Additionally, your computer must run on a Windows 98 or more recent system, and it must have a media stream player, such as RealPlayer, which can be conveniently downloaded off the Internet.
