Trends Toward High Speed Broadband Internet Connections

No matter which source you consult, the evidence is there: broadband use is continuing to rise, and dial-up use is in serious decline. Read below for some of the stats and explanations that help to explain this trend, as well as a number of reasons why you should switch to broadband if you haven’t already done so!

Faster Internet Connection Speeds - The Stats

According to InformationWeek, over 163 million Americans were using the Internet as of April 2005, and this represents a four percent rise from a survey taken eight months earlier. Even more impressive, 54% of online adults said they access the Internet over broadband connections at home. This number compares to only 37% in December of 2003. And according to ClickZ.com, these numbers are expected to rise to 78% by the end of 2010.

These numbers and stats spell very good news for broadband Internet companies like Cox, Roadrunner and SBC, some of which offer advanced services like Internet telephony, Web conferencing and photo and music sharing. All of these activities require the higher bandwidth that broadband provides, and while some of these activities are possible with dial-up connections, they are much more difficult to achieve. Broadband services offer much more flexibility and power when it comes to what you can and cannot do online.

Faster Internet Connection Speeds - Why Broadband Is Better

It doesn’t take industry experts to explain this increase! Broadband connections like cable and DSL use much faster Internet connection speeds than dial-up, and they are much easier to use as well. Additionally, they don’t tie up phone lines and multiple computers can be joined in networks without any problems. What’s more, broadband Internet connections allow for wireless broadband, which means that users can take their laptops almost anywhere, so long as there is a Wi-Fi signal in the vicinity. Wi-Fi gives people the freedom to work and play on the Internet wherever they choose, a terrific advantage.

With broadband, you can download your favorite music files in seconds, not in minutes. You’ll be able to easily keep in touch with friends and colleagues with a host of instant messenger and chat programs. You’ll also be able to quickly download music and other files to portable, hand-held devices. Even if you use the Internet to simply check e-mail, wouldn’t it be nice to be able to check your account in less than five minutes instead of waiting for your modem to get a dial tone? Faster Internet connection speeds are running away with the competition, so jump onto the broadband bandwagon before you get left behind!
