- Start the Xbox so that the Main Menu opens.
- Use the pad so that you can choose the Xbox Live option. Press the B button.
- Select Network Setup. Press theA button.
- Select IP Addresses and press the A button.
- Set Configuration to Automatic and press the B button to go back.
- Select DNS Servers and press the A button.
- Set Configuration to Automatic and press B to go back.
- Select PPPoE Settings and press the A button.
- Set Configuration to Off and press the B button to go back.
- Select the Advanced option and press the A button.
- Make sure the Host Name and MAC Address fields are empty, then press the B button to go back.
- Press the B button again to go back one more screen. (And then press it one more time).
- You’re done! You should now be able to use your Xbox. Enjoy!

Direct Connection
This is the fastest and easiest way to set up your Xbox Live connection. Choose this setup option if you do not want to share your connection with your computer.
- Unplug your modem and turn off your Xbox before plugging in any cables.
- Plug one end of your Ethernet cable into your Xbox, and the other end into your modem.
- Now turn on your modem, followed by your Xbox. Don’t put any discs inside it yet.
- From the Xbox dashboard, choose “Xbox Live.” You should now see the Xbox Live screen.
- Sign up for Xbox Live.
Router Connection
Choose this setup option if you want to share your connection with your computer, and you want to be able to play Xbox Live whether your computer is on or off.
- Unplug your broadband modem, broadband router, and computer and turn off your Xbox before plugging in any cables.
- Take your Ethernet cable and plug it into the Ethernet out-port on your modem and Ethernet in-port on your router.
- Take another Ethernet cable and connect one end to one of the Ethernet out-ports on the router and the other end to the Ethernet port on the PC NIC.
- Take another Ethernet cable and connect one end to one of the Ethernet out-ports on the router and the other end to the Ethernet port on the back of the Xbox console.
- Turn on your modem, then your router, then your PC.
- Make sure that your PC can access the Internet. If not, the router may require a specific configuration to let your PC access the Internet. Check the router documentation for help configuring the router using your PC.
- Turn on your Xbox console with no disc in the disc tray.
- From the Xbox Dashboard, choose Xbox Live. Or, play a game on your Xbox Live Starter Kit disc and choose the option for Xbox Live play.
