Digital Phone FAQ

------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Can I keep my current phone number?

A: Yes! Keep your existing phone number with your brand new Digital Phone service. You can continue to receive calls from your family and friends without having to notify them of a new telephone number. (Note that if you are moving to a new area at the time of ordering your new Digital Phone service, you may not be able to keep your old number in the new area).

Q: Will Digital Phone customers need to purchase additional phones or equipment?

A: Customers with touch tone phones will not need to purchase new equipment. The customer's existing telephone wires and phones will work with Digital Phone Service. There is some equipment that needs to
be installed, but the customer is not responsible for purchasing or leasing the equipment. Digital Phone service will not work with rotary phones.

Q: What is Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)?

A: Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology used to transmit voice and related calls over a data network. Most VoIP service providers use the public Internet to transmit your calls, but calls are transmitted over a private advanced broadband network. Using broadband technology, Digital Phone service is able to provide you with a number of enhanced new innovations, without sacrificing any of your current phone features or the call clarity you expect.

Q: If my electricity goes out, will I still be able to use my Digital Phone?

A: The eMTA (embedded Mulitmedia Terminal Adapter) supplied with your Digital Phone service contains a battery designed to provide a backup power for several hours of continuous use. The actual length of battery backup time will depend on the amount of time you use the phone to place outgoing calls during a power outage.

Q: If my cable goes out, will my phone go out too?

A: No! The service uses the power of broadband to deliver Digital Phone, cable television, and High-Speed Internet services to customers over a single coaxial cable. To ensure reliability, these services function independently of each other, so if one service is affected, it does not necessarily mean that your other services will be interrupted. But if a storm or accident knocks out the network, then multiple services may be affected, just as with the traditional phone companies.

Q: What equipment is needed for my Digital Phone service?

A: For Digital Phone service to work, the broadband provider must install an eMTA (embedded Mulitmedia Terminal Adapter). The adapter makes it possible to use both, your Digital Phone and your High-Speed Internet services at the same time. Smaller equipment lease fee may apply, and it varies from provider to provider. You can, however, still use your existing touch-tone telephones with Digital Phone service, which is great as you don't have to buy a whole new phone.

Q: Is there a service contract requirement?

A: No. Broadband providers are confident that once someone tries their Digital Phone service, they will be pleased.

^ TOP

Q: How many different telephone lines can I have with Digital Phone service?

A: Up to two lines.

^ TOP

Q: Does Digital Phone work the same way as traditional phone line?

A: Inside your home, the only difference is that the Digital Phone doesn't work with rotary phones. But who needs those? Most US households have stopped using rotary phones long time ago. If you're still using one - with a large round numeric dial - now's the time to sell it to your local antique shop and switch to the Digital Phone service. Digital Phone provides a host of features, even when compared to a traditional home phone service. And that is only a small part of what you will see. What you will not see is that the broadband providers are using the latest broadband technology and, in most areas, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). This in turn allows them to deliver crisp and crystal clear calls with advanced calling features not available with rotary or normal / traditional house phones.

Q: Can I use other cable services, such as cable TV or Internet, while using Digital Phone services?

A: Yes! Thanks to the power of technology, your broadband provider can offer a range of services supplied through the same coaxial cable, without interfering with TV viewing or web surfing.

^ TOP

Q: Are Digital Phone calls kept private?

A: Yes! By keeping the calls on their private broadband network, the broadband service providers are keeping the calls just as secure as with any other telephone provider.

^ TOP

Q: Is the sound quality the same or better than the Digital Phone?

A: You bet! Our digital communications network transmits a "clean" signal with less noise and distortion than many analog networks. Electronic filters are used and noise is essentially screened out of the signal so you get crisp, clear sound.

Q: How is service different from the traditional phone service I have today?

A: Digital Phone service gives you more features than traditional phone service can. Using our advanced broadband network, we provide you with a number of enhanced new innovations without sacrificing any of your current phone features or the call clarity you expect - with a great opportunity to save! And you can even keep your same phone number and use your existing phones.

Q: Can I still call the 911 service?

A: Feel even more secure in the event of an emergency. Enhanced 911 (E911) service operates much the same way as your typical 911 service, but also provides the benefit of automatically transmitting your telephone number and address location to the emergency dispatcher.
