About High-Speed Dial-Up
The High-Speed Movement
The widespread use of broadband Internet has initiated a high-speed movement online.
This movement consists of: the possibility for more information to be downloaded or sent, the demand for faster downloads (on the consumer side) and an allover shift in standards on the Internet.
With higher standards and more user demands (equating to less patience), traditional dial-up Internet access is becoming outdated. However, for the dial-up user who likes his or her method of connecting to the Internet, but wants a faster connection, there is high-speed dial-up to the rescue.
How High-Speed Dial-Up Works
High-speed dial-up works the same as traditional dial-up, except that it has an acceleration server that helps to shorten connection time. This server uses a broadband connection to request a page for the user. The resulting shortened connection time can be up to five times faster than traditional dial-up.
However, only the following applications can be accelerated with a high-speed dial-up connection:
- Text
- Java Script
- HTML
- Some graphics
Are You a Casual Internet User?
High-speed dial-up is a great choice for the casual computer or Internet user. If you don’t spend a lot of time downloading or file sharing, but you do use e-mail and basic Web surfing, then it will be a lot like your regular dial-up connection - but faster!
Also, high-speed dial-up is fairly priced, usually only a few dollars more per month than your existing dial-up connection.
