AT&T Offers Free Wi-Fi at Starbucks

June 16, 2008

Free AT&T Wi-Fi service is now available to Starbucks customers in more than 7,000 company-owned Starbucks coffee shop locations across the country. Starbucks customers will have access to two hours of free Wi-Fi after purchasing a minimum $5 Starbucks Card and registering at Starbucks.com for the Starbucks Rewards Card program. The two free hours must be used consecutively during one visit and the card must be used at least once per month to stay active. New members will receive a voucher for a free drink.

AT&T Customers Offered Unlimited Free Wi-Fi at Starbucks

AT&T is offering its wireless customers unlimited free Wi-Fi service at company- owned Starbucks – without the need for a Starbucks card – as well as free Wi-Fi at its 17,000 hot spots in the U.S. and nearly 70,000 in 89 countries worldwide.

12 Million AT&T and Starbucks Customers Will Access Wi-Fi

The AT&T/Starbucks rollout will continue through the end of the year bringing AT&T Wi-Fi service to every WI-Fi enabled Starbucks location reaching nearly 12 million of the companies’ combined customers.

“We are committed to connecting people to their worlds wherever they live and work,” said Rick Welday, AT&T’s chief marketing officer. “For our more than 120 million customers, this is just another way we deliver their world of communications and entertainment – all from the comfort of Starbucks.”

AT&T Wi-Fi Enhances the Starbucks Experience

Chris Bruzzo, Starbucks chief technology officer stated, “Now more than ever, Starbucks is focused on the in-store experience for our customers. As we continue to build our technology offerings in ways that both enhance and expand the Starbucks experience for our customers, we made a strategic decision to expand our existing relationship with our longtime technology partner AT&T to include consumer Wi-Fi.”

The deal between AT&T and Starbucks was announced in February and is part of AT&T’s plan to expand its broadband and wireless services.
