Charter Communications and Big Ten Network in Negotiations

July 22, 2008

Charter Communications and the Big Ten Network entered negotiations for Charter to carry the Big Ten Network's sports programming. This follows the recent announcement that after more than a year of negotiations Comcast has signed a long term, multi-media deal with the Big Ten Network and, in August, will begin airing its programming in states with Big Ten schools including Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.

Charter and Big Ten Network Hope to Reach Quick Deal

Many Charter subscribers have expressed an interest in having Big Ten Conference sports included in the cable company's lineup. But while both Charter and Big Ten Network spokespersons expressed optimism that an agreement will be reached soon, there are still several issues that must be resolved first including where the Big Ten Network will fit into Charter's channel lineup and how much Charter will pay Big Ten Network for their programming.

Big Ten Network Covers Every Big Ten Conference Sport

Big Ten Network sports coverage includes every men's and women's sport played at the Big Ten Conference schools. The network covers the Conference and its 11 member institutions while providing access to conference sports events and shows, original programs, and more - including live sports coverage, news, highlights, and analysis. The Big Ten Network is a joint venture of subsidiaries of the Big Ten Conference and Fox Cable Networks.
