June 23, 2008 Just over one month ago Clearwire cemented a $14.5 billion venture with Sprint, Comcast, Time Warner, Google, Intel, and Brighthouse to create a WiMAX network that will be available across the U.S.; and in a meeting with investors this week the company announced its goal of signing up 30.8 million subscriber households, generating $17.5 billion in revenue by 2017, and having coverage available to as many as 220 million households. Clearwire to Offer a Variety of WiMAX Products to its CustomersClearwire expects that a large portion of its growth will be through offering a variety of products to customers including residential broadband, residential voice, mobile broadband, mobile voice, and mobile entertainment. They project that subscribers to these products will spend between $109 and $250 per month with the company and that the average subscription per user will be $60 to $65. Clearwire WiMAX High-Speed Internet Technology to Roll Out by End of 2008WiMAX is a wireless high-speed Internet technology that is expected to enable entire metropolitan areas to access the Web with cell phones and laptop computers. If all goes according to plan, WiMAX should be rolled out by the end of the year and Clearwire projects its coverage will reach between 60 and 80 million customers by the end of 2009. Clearwire Will Operate Independently from its Powerhouse InvestorsAs the agreement between Clearwire and its powerhouse investors heads toward completion at the end of the year, executives have been clear that the new company is not a joint venture and will be operated independently, with its own independent management team. |
