Comcast SportsNet Northwest Signs Two Distribution Deals

October 24, 2008

by Michael Peters

Comcast SportsNet Northwest has signed distribution agreements with two Northwest cable television companies: Country Cablevision, which serves customers in the Salem, OR area, and Monroe Telephone, located north of Eugene, OR.

The deals increase the number of cable providers which carry Comcast SportsNet Northwest to seven companies which serve more than 200 Oregon and Washington communities. Comcast negotiations with other cable providers in the region, including DirecTV are continuing.

Comcast SportsNet Set to Air Portland Trail Blazers Games

The distribution agreements allow Comcast to expand the company’s SportsNet Northwest reach by October 28, when the Portland Trail Blazers play their first game of the season. Blazers fans can only see locally broadcast games through Comcast SportsNet Northwest.

Sports Programming on Comcast SportsNet Northwest

In addition to Trail Blazers’ games, Comcast SportsNet Northwest will carry the NHL Vancouver Canucks, University of Oregon, NCAA, the Canadian Football League, and many outdoor sporting events on the network.

The network’s shows include “Sports Rise,” a weekday program featuring breaking news, and highlights of interest to Northwest sports fans; “The Fan 1080 Sports Radio,” an inside view of one of Portland’s most popular sports talk shows; “Outdoors,” a weekend show featuring a comprehensive rundown of local outdoor and adventure programming; “Get Out! With Shelley & Courtney,” a weekend show that explores the best of outdoor fishing including visits to the most popular local fish locales; “Net Impact,” a 30-minute monthly sports magazine show; “Fantasy Fix,” an interactive sports program dedicated entirely to fantasy football with weekly and seasonal outlooks for fantasy football fans; and “Pro Football Now,” a fast-paced show which has top NFL analysts and observers debating the hot issues of the week.
