August 13, 2008 For the second consecutive year, PC Magazine has rated Verizon's FiOS Internet service the best ISP in the U.S. In a survey, PC Magazine readers rated their Internet service providers - fiber-based service, DSL, cable, and satellite - in 11 categories including speed, reliability, setup, ISP-provided email, likelihood of choosing, and overall rating. Verizon's FiOS Internet service received the highest scores among all ISPs in each of these categories. Verizon FiOS Internet Service Offers Fiber-to-the-Premises Connection"Unsurprisingly, the favored method to connect is fiber-to-the-premises, as embodied by the Verizon FiOS service," PC Magazine said in reporting its survey results. "The fast fiber hookup received an 8.6 for an overall score - the best rating of all the broadband options." "Finishing at the top of the chart among PC Magazine's readers two years in a row is music to our ears," said John Wimsatt, Verizon vice president for broadband marketing. "It reinforces something we've known for quite some time about FiOS broadband service. But we're not about to rest on our laurels. We will continue to expand the FiOS network, introducing our service to more consumers while delivering improvements and new features." Verizon FiOS Internet Service Offers Speeds of 20 MbpsIn the last year Verizon introduced its symmetrical FiOS Internet service with upload and downstream speeds of 20 Mbps and, in June, the company expanded its 50 Mbps downstream FiOS Internet service to consumers in 10 more states. It is now offered in markets in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. Verizon delivers ultra-high-speed broadband straight to customers' homes over its fiber-optic network which currently reaches 10 million homes and business, and is expected to reach more than 18 million by 2010. |
