Verizon Adds 29 FiOS Channels in Maryland and Northern Virginia |

September 30, 2008 By Mike Peters Verizon FiOS TV has launched 39 new channels - 19 of which are high definition (HD) - to its customers in Maryland and northern Virginia. FiOS TV customers will now have at least 49 high definition channels as well as 500-plus high definition video-on-demand (VOD) titles to choose from each month. In a company statement, Verizon said it will continue to expand its FiOS TV channel lineup this year, with a major focus on high definition content. By year-end, Verizon plans to offer all available major high definition programming to its customers. Verizon FiOS TV Offers Additional HD, Standard, and Multicultural ProgrammingAdditional HD channels Verizon FiOS TV customers in the region will receive include Animal Planet, TLC, Science Channel, Smithsonian Channel, CNN, CNBC, Lifetime, Bravo, TBS, History Channel, Weather Channel, USA, and SCI FI. Verizon also offers six new HD sports channels including the Big Ten Network, hockey and golf on Versus/Golf Channel, the Outdoor Channel 2, and ESPNU. In addition to the new HD content, Verizon has launched 20 new standard-definition channels in the Maryland and northern Virginia region. The new content includes Reelz, Veria TV, WAPA TV, the Big Ten Network, and Setanta Sports. Verizon also is offering customers in the area 15 new multicultural channels, including leading channels for Arabic, Portuguese, and Russian audiences, among others. Verizon FiOS TV Special OfferFor a limited time, Verizon is offering one year's free use of either an HD DVR (digital video recorder) or an HD Home Media DVR to consumers who sign up for FiOS TV. Verizon is also offering new FiOS TV customers, or existing customers who upgrade to a bundled package, one free month of HBO and Cinemax, which includes more than 25 premium channels and access to hundreds of additional titles on video-on-demand (VOD). |
