Verizon Wireless has announced the completion of enhancements to its advanced 3G high-speed wireless network in Kentucky. Verizon Wireless customers in the state will have access to faster broadband speeds when they browse the Internet, download music, send email and multimedia messages, and access other advanced wireless services. Verizon completed the enhancements by installing advanced EV-DO Rev. A (Evolution-data Optimized, Revision A) hardware and software on the cell sites that needed upgrading as well as activating an additional 41 EV-DO cell sites in the state.
Verizon Wireless 3G EV-DO REV. A High-Speed Technology
"We know 3G, EV-DO and Rev. A sound like part of a technical alphabet soup," said Greg Haller, president of Verizon Wireless, Kentucky/Indiana/Michigan region. "But, here's what they mean for Kentuckians: All Verizon Wireless customers in Kentucky have access to a wide array of broadband services on our reliable high-speed network."
The EV-DO Rev. A enhancements are part of the company's ongoing investment in Kentucky. They give customers access to advanced services such as V CAST (which lets them stream video clips, play cutting-edge 3D games, download full-song tracks over the air), get turn-by-turn directions on VZ Navigator, and connect with Verizon's newest Push to Talk technology.
Verizon Wireless Offers High-Speed Wireless Connection for Businesses
EV-DO Rev. A technology also provides the highest speed wireless connection to BroadbandAccess, the company's business data service, which enables customers to wirelessly access their email and calendars, the Internet, and other information via a high-speed connection. BroadbandAccess offers average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (Kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of 500-800 Kbps, which means customers can download a 1 Megabyte attachment - the equivalent of a small PowerPoint presentation or a large PDF file - in about eight seconds and upload the same-sized file in less than 13 seconds.
