February 4, 2009

By Jennifer Hull

Comcast and Disney-ABC Domestic Television have announced the launch of Disney Family Movies, a subscription video on demand (SVOD) service. The service showcases classic and contemporary Disney family movies and is now available to Comcast digital customers.

Comcast Offers 20 Hours of Disney Family Movies Each Month

Disney Family Movies gives customers unlimited access to approximately 20 hours of content each month, including 10 Disney feature films and two short-form films. The titles will remain in rotation for approximately one month, with new movies added weekly. The initial titles available at launch this month include “George of the Jungle,” “The Parent Trap,” “Eloise at the Plaza,” and “Treasure Planet.”

“We’re offering unlimited viewing of ten classic Disney movies whenever you want,” said Derek Harrar, senior vice president and general manager of video services for Comcast. “Kids’ and family programming continues to be one of our top On Demand categories, and we are thrilled to continue delivering the best quality content with Disney.”

Comcast Adds Disney Family Movies to On Demand

“We’re delighted to offer Disney Family Movies to Comcast’s customers,” said Dan Cohen, executive vice president, pay television and new media for Disney-ABC Domestic Television. “The addition of this one-of-a-kind, family-friendly service is a wonderful complement to the company’s video on demand initiatives.”

Comcast On Demand currently offers customers thousands of kids’ and family entertainment choices among the more than 10,000 programs available throughout the course of a month, including more than 1,000 choices in HD available at any time. Currently, Comcast customers view more than 300 million On Demand programs a month.
