February 24, 2009 By Mike Peters Cox Communications has announced that its customers will receive an automatic upgrade to the latest version of McAfee's security software suite, providing them stronger protection, faster response times, and improved parental controls. Customers who download the free Cox Security Suite powered by McAfee will automatically be provided with the latest enhancements to the software. "Cox is committed to providing a safe and secure online experience by giving all our high-speed Internet customers free access to the Cox Security Suite powered by McAfee," stated Janet Barnard, senior vice president and general manager for Cox Communications Northern Virginia. "These latest enhancements give customers some of the best-in-class protection at no extra cost." Features of Cox Security Suite with McAfee's Active ProtectionThe 2009 version of the Cox Security Suite includes McAfee's Active Protection which provides instant threat updates to protect customers against viruses and other malware. Also included is a Quick Scan feature, which allows customers to check for threats in the areas of their computer that are most frequently attacked. And the software update provides even stronger parental controls, including age-appropriate searching to help ensure that safety features of popular search engines are enabled which will help prevent children from seeing inappropriate content online.
