Cable
and broadband internet providerComcast will be looking to provide services that can connect users to cable TV shows on their smartphones with a mobile broadband internet connection, according to reports.
Comcast CFO Michael Angelakis said at an investor conference that Comcast subscribers can eventually watch cable shows at no additional charge on their mobile broadband smartphones like the iPhone 3GS and BlackBerry, according to InformationWeek.
Although smartphones with TV capability are popular in Asia, U.S. broadband internet TV services have not taken off. AT&T and Verizon Wireless both offer a subscription service on their networks.
Comcast is aggressively pursuing a strategy to unite its offerings across cable and broadband, by bringing TV content to Comcast high speed internet subscribers, called Comcast Online On Demand. The company has been running a technical trial of the program this summer and should unveil it soon nation-wide.
The cable internet giant has been battling rumors that it is seeking to expand its customer base by merging with Time Warner Cable. The rumor was denied by a Time Warner executive this week.
