Comcast offers 100 Mbps high speed internet service
September 10, 2009
Broadband internet giant Comcast said it has upgraded available speeds for businesses in its high speed internet class in St. Paul, Minnesota, using advanced DOCSIS 3.0 technology.
Comcast is offering business customers one of the fastest broadband services available in the U.S., up to 100 Megabits per second (Mbps) downloads and up to 15 Mbps uploads.
The service is another of Comcast's muscle-flexing deployments of next-generation DOCSIS 3.0 technology, which sets a new standard for delivering high speed internet service across fiber-optic networks.
The technology, also referred to as wideband, will enable Comcast to continue to deliver progressively faster speeds well into the future.
Comcast's upgrade propels the Twin Cities region into one of the most-connected regions of the country with a high-capacity fiber-optic network.
The company has rolled out DOCSIS 3.0 wideband in several other cities, including San Francisco and Atlanta.
Comcast is the largest cable internet provider, with 23.9 million cable customers, 15.3 million high speed internet customers, and 7 million Comcast Digital Voice customers.
Home broadband customers can get download speeds of up to 50 Mbps using current technology.
