Comcast on-demand service could help police find fugitives
May 21, 2009
A new service from broadband cable provider Comcast could help state police in Connecticut track down fugitives responsible for some of the state's unsolved crimes.
The service, called Police Blotter On Demand, is the first public service programming of its kind in Connecticut to utilize video-on-demand to expose dangerous fugitives and enhance public safety, the company announced today.
Comcast's digital cable customers can tune into the Police Blotter On Demand channel to view photographs and short descriptions of 10 different cold cases. Similar to the popular America's Most Wanted television show, viewers who have information about a featured fugitive will be directed to call the Connecticut State Police - anonymously, if they choose.
"We remain committed to promoting public safety and providing On Demand programming that is meaningful to our local community," said MichaelParker, vice president for Comcast in Connecticut.
John A. Danaher III, commissioner of public safety for Connecticut, said the service could prove effective at solving violent crimes including murder, assault and gang violence.
"We believe this service can make a difference in ongoing investigations and help provide a safer environment for all Connecticut residents," he said.
Police Blotter segments are available under the Get Local folder found through the On Demand menu.
