Verizon reaches video on demand deal with YES Network
April 8, 2009
Fans of the New York Yankees and should be thrilled that this baseball season games will be available on demand for New York and Northern New Jersey customers of Verizon's FiOS broadband cable service.
The YES Network, the most-watched regional sports network in the country for the past six years, and Verizon announced they have reached a multiyear video-on-demand agreement beginning today. This makes Verizon the first distributor to offer Yankees games on demand, Verizon said.
Verizon has expanded FiOS, its fiber-to-the-home digital cable network, to more than 9 million homes in 14 states, the company said.
In addition to YES' Yankees telecasts, FiOS TV customers will have access to other YES programming including Emmy Award-winning post-game and interview shows.
"This agreement with Verizon ensures that more Yankees fans than ever before can watch YES' Emmy Award-winning Yankees telecasts," said Ray Hopkins of the YES Network. "Verizon customers will have unprecedented access to YES's deep programming lineup, whether it be Yankees-themed shows or our other critically acclaimed interview and magazine shows."
