As mobile searches grow, so do mobile ads
May 4, 2009
The increasing amount of internet search activity from mobile devices has created an opportunity for websites and advertisers who are targeting internet users.
A new report from the Kelsey Group forecasts that U.S. mobile search advertising revenues will grow from $39 million in 2008 to $2.3 billion by 2013, a compound annual growth rate of 125.6 percent.
"We anticipate a tenfold increase in the number of mobile internet search users during the forecast period -- from 5.2 million in 2008 to 56.2 million in 2013," said Neal Polachek, CEO of the Kelsey Group. "The attendant increase in searches per user and the percentage of search results that are served with ads will drive the growth in mobile search ad revenues."
The booming growth in the number of people accessing wireless internet connections from mobile devices - for everything from web searches to watching programming from cable providers and broadcasters and movie downloads - has the media industry humming.
The National Association of Broadcasters recently partnered with Winning Media Strategies, an industry conference being held this month, to examine the role of mobile advertising and how local advertisers can find income through cross-platforms, including online, social and mobile media.
