May 1, 2009
A new series premiering tonight on MTV will also be available on the internet and through AT&T mobile phones. The 15-episode series $5 Cover showcases up-and-coming music acts, beginning with the music scene in Memphis, Tennessee.
Directed by Craig Brewer, whose Hustle & Flow won an Academy Award, the series provides music fans with access to an insider's look at what's happening today in a city rich with musical history, the wireless provider and cable network announced.
AT&T will present the inaugural $5 Cover: Memphis series, with new episodes airing at midnight on Friday nights. Viewer with high speed internet access can also watch videos of the show on MTV.com and MySpace.com will alsohost exclusive content and promotion for the series across various areas of the site.
The series includes bonus content such as 70 mini-documentaries about the artists, interview footage and ringtones, photos, full tracks of songs and tidbits about Memphis culture - all accessible through broadcast, online and mobile platforms.
David Gale, executive vice president of MTV New Media, said the series shows a "logical transition for talented filmmakers like Craig Brewer," to take advantage of different media in a time when consumers demand "content where they want it, when they want it and how they want it."
