AT&T recognized for support of women and minority-owned businesses
March 27, 2009
The Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), an advocate of women-owned businesses as suppliers to America's corporations, has named AT&T as one of America's Top Corporations for Women's Business Enterprises (WBEs), the company announced.
AT&T said its diverse list of suppliers has earned the company recognition by the WBENC for each of the last 10 years, since the list's inception. AT&T is a board member and strong supporter of the WBENC.
"Supplier diversity is an integral part of the way AT&T does business, said Tim Harden, AT&T president for supply chain and fleet operations. "By providing contracting opportunities for women business enterprises, we're empowering ourselves to win in today's competitive global marketplace."
Along with 19 other corporations, AT&T was honored at the WBENC's 2009 Summit and Salute to Women's Business Enterprise, held Thursday.
For the last three years, AT&T has ranked first on DiversityBusiness.com's list of the Top Organizations for Multicultural Business Opportunities and ranked second in 2009 among DiversityInc's Top 50 Companies for Diversity.
The National Minority Supplier Development Council's Telecommunications Industry Group will present AT&T with the DiversityNxt Corporation Award for leadership in including diverse suppliers.
