Comcast adding HBO, CBS to On Demand Online trial
July 14, 2009
Comcast and Time Warner Cable announced that the cable companies are adding more channels for a trial of showing cable TV programming online for subscribers to Comcast high speed internet service.
The trial of On Demand Online will include HBO and Cinemax online for the first time for Comcast's HBO and Cinemax customers, accessible via Comcast.net and Fancast.com.
CBS said it is currently working out a deal with Comcast for showing the network's TV series online for Comcast subscribers, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Comcast is experimenting with its On Demand Online program through a trial involving 5,000 Comcast high speed internet customers nationwide to test the technology. The company has not discussed plans for when the service will become available for all its subscribers.
On Demand Online's line-up already includes programming from Time Warner's Turner networks TNT and TBS, as well as Starz.
At launch, the HBO and Cinemax broadband services on Comcast's On Demand Online will include full-length episodes of HBO series like True Blood, Entourage and the Sopranos.
Popular theatrical movies including Transformers, The Dark Knight, Tropic Thunder, Atonement, Brokeback Mountain, Michael Clayton and Shrek the Third will also be included.
