Comcast unifying terms of use, privacy policy for its websites
September 2, 2009
Comcast, the largest provider of high speed internet, is informing customers that it will soon allow subscribers to use a single log in to access multiple Comcast-owned websites. As part of that process, the company is unifying the terms of service and privacy policies across all the sites.
Comcast said on its Comcast Voices blog that the company will create a single terms of service and privacy policy for Comcast.net, Fancast.com, Plaxo.com and Chirp.com effective October 6, 2009. The unified policies will be "consistent" with the company's existing policies.
Blogger Scott McNulty wrote that Comcast is making the unified policies clearer to customers "by explaining in plain English how we use - and protect - your information to deliver more personalized services through these sites both now and in the future."
The unified log in will allow Comcast high speed internet subscribers to carry account settings, preferences and other information across each of the sites.
Comcast's current Comcast.net policy explains that the company uses some customer information for targeting ads, as well as recording non-personally identifiable information about site usage such as IP addresses, browser types, pages accessed and times of use.
