Cox adds BET HD to lineup
April 27, 2009
Cox Communications of Hampton Roads, Virginia announced the addition of another free high definition channel with the offering of BET HD on channel 736, starting April 30.
BET HD will be available in most areas in greater Hampton Roads such as Southside, Gloucester, Poquoson, Williamsburg and Newport News, Cox said. BET provides "contemporary entertainment that speaks to young Black adults from an authentic, unapologetic viewpoint of the Black experience," according to the cable provider.
Cox is the third-largest cable television company in the country with more than 6.2 million total residential and commercial customers.
"We are pleased to add BET HD to our growing list of HD channels. Best of all, we do not charge extra for the HD channels so Cox customers can watch them for free," said Gary McCollum, senior vice president of Cox Hampton Roads.
Cox now offers 56 HD channels which remain free for Cox customers who have expanded HD tier, an HD television, HD service from Cox and an HD receiver or a CableCARD, the company said.
Cox said additional channels are planned for Hampton in May and for James City County and York County later this year.
