Cox hosts e-waste recycling event
April 15, 2009
Cable provider Cox Communications announced it will host a recycling event for consumer electronics, or "e-waste," at the Hampton Convention Center in Chesapeake, Virginia on Saturday, April 25.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
"Cox is sponsoring this event because of its commitment to environmental protection and recycling," said Gary McCollum, general manager of Cox Hampton Roads.
The recycling event is part of the company's broader environmental initiatives, the company said. The company's goal is to reduce its annual carbon footprint, or greenhouse gas emissions, by 20 percent by 2017.
In addition, Cox said it is committed to purchasing hybrid vehicles and other green activities through its local Cox Conserves Committee.
For the Hampton Convention Center event, residents are asked to bring proof of residency.
Items suggested for collection include computers, televisions, stereos, camcorders, cell phones, printers, scanners and thousands of other household or office devices powered by plug or battery.
In addition to the April 25 event, Synergy Recycling will pick up e-waste from area businesses free of charge from April 14 to May 1.
