Cox rolls out DOCSIS 3.0 high speed internet in Arizona
August 21, 2009
Cox Communications has expanded its fastest broadband service to residential customers in Arizona, rolling out DOCSIS 3.0 cable internet technology to bring customers its Ultimate Internet package, which delivers up to 50 Mbps downloads and 5 Mbps uploads.
Speeds are further enhanced, up to 55 Mbps, with PowerBoost, a cable-exclusive technology that provides an extra burst of speed when it's needed.
The Ultimate Internet package is now available in Carefree and Rio Verde and will be in Scottsdale over the next month, with the complete market rolled out over the next year, Cox said in its announcement.
The standard price for the residential Ultimate Internet package will be $89.99 per month. In addition to PowerBoost, the Ultimate package also offers customers 10 email accounts, Cox Security Suite powered by McAfee and 5GB of online storage.
The third generation of cable's DOCSIS (Data-Over-Cable Service Interface Specification) service introduces channel bonding, a technology that can bond parallel cable channels to transmit data at faster speeds.
"This technology is the gold standard for speed and reliability," said Josh Nelson, vice president of information and network technologies for Cox Arizona.
