FCC commissioner Adelstein to head rural utilities service

President Barack Obama announced last week his intention to nominate FCC commissioner Jonathan Adelstein as head of the agriculture department's rural utilities service, the agency charged with disbursing funds for the broadband stimulus to expand high-speed internet access.
The seat Adelstein will likely vacate is expected to go to Mignon Clyburn, a South Carolina public service commissioner and daughter of House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.), I would remove this according to a report from Broadcasting & Cable.
An agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the rural utilities service also provides funding to rural utilities and cooperatives. Agriculture secretary Tom Vilsack has announced $271 million in loans to build and repair more than 4,000 miles of distribution and transmission lines in 15 states.
"President Obama is delivering on his commitment to invest in America's infrastructure and create jobs," Vilsack said. "Our rural communities need reliable, affordable electric service in order to support business expansion and broaden economic opportunities."
President Obama has said the broadband stimulus bill, providing $7.5 billion in funding for broadband expansion, will create jobs and economic opportunity to rural areas.
