Former Alltel customers now on Verizon network in Virginia
June 1, 2009
Verizon Wireless, which acquired rival wireless provider Alltel in January, announced that former Alltel customers in five central Virginia cities have been switched over to the Verizon network.
As of May 30th, Alltel customers in Charlottesville, Lynchburg, Madison Heights, Martinsville and South Boston, Virginia were switched over to Verizon's networks, including for billing and customer service, Verizon said.
Former Alltel customers in markets to be retained by Verizon Wireless in central Virginia now have access to Verizon Wireless' lineup of devices and data services, such as V CAST Music and Video, MiFi and VZ Navigator and can visit Verizon Wireless stores across the country for sales and service.
Both former Alltel and existing Verizon Wireless customers in these areas willalso now benefit from network enhancements resulting from the integration of the two companies' networks, including increased coverage in a number of areas of the Commonwealth, Verizon said.
The company upgraded wireless data speeds in Lynchburg, Charlottesville and Martinsville, as more than 100 former Alltel cell sites have been upgraded to EVDO Rev A technology, which means customers with mobile broadband devices can now have access to faster web surfing and email access.
