Internet as distraction: Does anybody get any work done?

The popularity of internet video and content sharing websites reveals something about what Americans are thinking about. With everybody so stressed about their jobs and the economy a lot of internet users seek distraction.
Thanks to data collected in surveys by the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life project, researchers know what people who look for certain kinds of information on the web are saying about it.
Of people who are online economic users, for economics news and personal finance, 75 percent also go online to "relax and take their minds off of the recession," the Pew researchers report.
According to an April 2009 survey by the Pew Research Center, the most common activites among these users is listening to music and watching online videos 50 percent of users are doing this. Another one-third of online economic users have played online games or chatted with friends on a social networking site, listserv or other online group.
About 22 percent of internet users go online to post content like blogs, podcasts or videos. This trend is growing among younger Americans, who have seemingly been raised on the internet, MySpace, Facebook and mobile phones.
