Lifetime Movie Network hits 70 million U.S. subscribers
April 22, 2009
Lifetime Movie Network, the number two-rated women's cable channel behind only its sister network, Lifetime Television, has officially reached 70 million U.S. subscribers, the company announced.
The 70 million subscriber milestone represents a 19 percent increase in distribution from April 2008, making Lifetime Movie Network the industry's fastest-growing network, said Andrea Wong, president and CEO of Lifetime Networks.
Wong said the growth is primarily due to expanded carriage on DISH Network and across Comcast broadband systems.
"It is fantastic that Lifetime Movie Network is now getting the attention it deserves, and distributors are recognizing its value to them as a leading entertainment destination for women," Wong said.
Lifetime Movie Network, launched in 1988, is currently America's number two-rated female network in both primetime and total day among total viewers, households, women 18-49 and women 25-54.
The network reached 15 million womenaged 18-49 in March 2009, up 26 percent compared to last year.
In 2009, Lifetime Movie Network offers a slate of 16 original movies, including Natalee Holloway, which broke all Lifetime Movie Network records on its initial April 19 airing.
