Mediacom CEO honored with leadership award
March 30, 2009
The cable industry will recognize Rocco B. Commisso, founder, chairman and CEO of Mediacom Communications Corporation, with the 2009 Vanguard Award for Distinguished Leadership.
The award will be presented at a ceremony April 3 in Washington, DC during Cable Show '09, the National Cable & Telecommunications Association's 58th annual convention, Mediacom said.
The Vanguard Awards are presented annually to "individuals who excel in both business and personal commitment to their colleagues and whose accomplishments merit the recognition of the entire cable industry," according to a release.
Commisso came to the United States as a 12-year-old immigrant from Italy and founded Mediacom Communications, now the 8th largest cable television company in the country, in the basement of his home a decade ago.
"Rocco would be the first to tell you that the success he has realized in the cable business would not be possible without the collective efforts and daily commitment of Mediacom's 4,500 employees," said Mediacom executive Mark Stephan.
Past recipients of the award include Bill Bresnan, Bill Daniels, Chuck Dolan, Alan Gerry, Amos Hostetter, John Malone and Ralph Roberts.
