Philadelphia gets upgraded Comcast high speed internet
July 22, 2009
Philadelphia is the latest city to have its Comcast high speed internet network upgraded to wideband with the roll out of DOCSIS 3.0 technology. All areas of the Philadelphia market including southern New Jersey and northern Delaware will have access to speeds up to 50 percent faster.
Comcast said its nationwide rollout of DOCSIS 3.0 has reached nearly 50 percent of all homes passed by its high speed internet service or nearly 25 million homes and businesses.
Wideband allows Comcast to offer among the fastest speeds available today, including the Extreme 50 tier with download speeds of up to 50 Mbps. It also doubles speeds for the majority of existing Comcast high speed internet customers at no additional cost.
The Extreme 50 tier of 50 Mbps is available for $139.85 per month.
Comcast earlier this year upgraded to the speedier wideband in Pittsburgh and has recently been expanding wideband across a broader footprint in the San Francisco Bay area.
Comcast said 65 percent of their high speed internet customers will be upgraded to wideband by the end of the year, according to DSLreports.com.
