Survey: Wireless consumers oppose new taxes on service
April 6, 2009
Consumers overwhelmingly say they are pleased with the level of service they receive from their wireless providers and similarly oppose new taxes on wireless phone service, according to an industry-sponsored survey.
Sponsored by MyWireless - an advocacy group supported by CTIA, the wireless industry association - the survey shows strong majorities of wireless customers believe additional taxes and regulations will not improve their services.
According to the survey, 94 percent of American wireless consumers are satisfied or very satisfied with their cell phone service and 87 believe that all government taxes, fees and surcharges at the state and city levels should be clearly itemized on their monthly cell phone bills.
About 80 percent of respondents also believe the government should put a five-year freeze on wireless taxes and 76 percent believe new government regulations would make cell phone service more expensive.
"When it comes to taxes and fees, consumers say they already pay enough - or too much - on their monthly bills and would support policies that prohibit new state and local wireless taxes, fees and surcharges," said Brian Johnston, MyWireless director of communications.
