Time Warner Announces "Fame Star!" Viral Video Promotion

October 31, 2008

By Mike Peters

Time Warner Cable will launch a new viral video promotion that allows consumers to create their own celebrity news stories to demonstrate how the cable network's customers can master all forms of entertainment. Created by Ogilvy New York, the new online application, "Fame Star! The Online Biopic You Control", gives consumers the tools to create and star in their own one-minute celebrity expose as if taken out of the news reels of popular entertainment shows.

Users can upload their own photos, record their voice, and select a story arc that includes level of success, scandal, and tragedy. A video biopic is then created that users can share with friends and post to a variety of social networking sites. "Fame Star" has already been launched and the site will be promoted through social media sites, the Time Warner Cable website, and other online properties.

"Time Warner Cable gives its customers control of all their in-home entertainment options," said Lisa Stockmon, VP of marketing for Time Warner Cable. "This new viral video is a fun way to show the connection between our brand and our consumers' ability to control and create their own forms of entertainment."

Ogilvy New York partnered with technology provider Oddcast, a provider of speaking avatar-based products, to create "Fame Star! The Online Biopic You Control." According to Ogilvy's creative director, Tommy Henvey, "'Fame Star!' engages the consumer by creating rich online experiences. This is a creative way to involve the public by borrowing from the cultural phenomenon of fame, and allowing the consumer to write his or her own celebrity story."

"'Fame Star' brings the passion for online self-expression together with the growing popularity of reality shows and celebrity content," said Adi Sideman, CEO of Oddcast. "The Oddcast technology allows site visitors to create their own celebrity-style story. Humorous content performs great for viral distribution. The hilarious life stories are sure to be a hit."
