Turn your PC into a Portable Phone with V-Phone

Vonage, a leading provider of VoIP telephone service, now offers broadband telephone subscribers portability with V-Phone. This device, which can be attached to your key chain, plugs into any PC USB port (the service is currently unavailable with Macintosh) allowing users to make phone calls from any high speed Internet connection. Whether you’re surfing the web from your local café or a hotel half-way across the world, V-Phone makes it possible to speak to your personal and professional contacts through the Internet.

What is VoIP

Voice over Internet protocol or VoIP allows users to make phone calls using a broadband Internet connection rather than a traditional phone line. It works by connecting your telephone to your high speed Internet connection through a telephone adapter. VoIP converts your voice into data and sends it across an IP network. Once across, the data is transferred back to voice and sounds just like a regular phone call.

V-Phone works the same way, but allows the freedom of portability. With V-Phone, a flash drive, which plugs into a USB port, works as your telephone adapter, and attaches to a 2.5 mm earpiece/microphone, which is compatible with most cell phone head sets. When you finish your call, you simply remove the flash drive and continue using the Internet as normal. The flash drive automatically saves all of your vital contact information.

The Vonage V-Phone does not require any setup. Vonage software comes pre-loaded on the V-Phone and updates itself on the device's 256 MB flash drive.

Benefits of Using V-Phone

Vonage V-Phone is perfect for anyone on the go. Users can check their voicemail from any computer and send voicemail attachments directly to an e-mail account or BlackBerry, making it ideal for frequent business travelers. Small business employees will enjoy the convenience of a virtual mobile office with the ability to make phone calls from PCs with high speed Internet access anywhere in the world! In addition, the V-Phone offers added convenience because phone call history and contacts travel with the V-Phone if users insert it into different PCs.

Because V-Phone is designed to promote portability, the device is also ideal for college students and other frequently mobile individuals.

The V-Phone also comes with many features at no additional charge; including, voicemail, caller ID with name, call waiting, call forwarding, three-way calling, call transfer, etc. As an added bonus, the flash drive comes with 250 MB of additional storage to store files, MP3s, photos, and more.

Costs

The V-Phone costs $39.99 with an additional $9.00 activation fee. Vonage offers $14.99 for 500 minutes, $24.99 for residential unlimited and $34.99 for business unlimited. Calls to Canada and Puerto Rico are considered local and Vonage has reduced international rates with no connection fees.
