Verizon Announces "BroadbandAccess" in NY Counties

August 26, 2008

Verizon Wireless has introduced BroadbandAccess, the company's wireless broadband service, in Chautauqua and Otsego Counties in NY and has expanded its coverage in Cattaraugus and Delaware Counties. BroadbandAccess is designed to give local customers access to state-of-the-art high-speed business and entertainment services on their wireless phones, laptops, desktop computers, and PDAs.

Verizon BroadbandAccess customers in these counties will be able to access their e-mail, corporate data, and the Internet at broadband speeds -- in their homes or on the road. They can also view and download video clips on their phones, download music onto their handsets over-the-air, play 3D games, and send large data files at faster speeds.

Verizon Wireless' wireless broadband network now covers Western, Central, and Eastern New York from Lake Erie to the Hudson River Valley, including the cities of Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Utica/Rome, Albany, Jamestown, Elmira/Corning, Ithaca, Binghamton, Watertown, Canton/Potsdam, Glens Falls, Poughkeepsie, and into the New York City area, as well as hundreds of other locations across the state.

Features of Verizon's BroadbandAccess Wireless Broadband Service

BroadbandAccess provides average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) up to 1.4 megabits per second (Mbps) and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps. This translates to being able to download a 1 Megabyte e-mail attachment - the equivalent of a small PowerPoint presentation or a large PDF file - in about eight seconds and upload the same-sized file in less than 13 seconds.

The company's high-speed network also enables Verizon's V CAST multimedia services, giving customers the ability to download song tracks from a library of more than five million tunes, play games, and stream video clips straight to their handsets. With content updated daily, customers can watch dozens of on-demand videos, including news, weather, and sports highlights.

Verizon's Focus on Customer Service

"Verizon Wireless is focused on providing the best customer experience, and a major part of that commitment is making sure we continue to have the best, most reliable network," said Marquett Smith, president of Verizon Wireless' Upstate New York region. "Instead of merely offering wireless broadband service in metropolitan areas or near major airports, we're committed to giving our customers the ability to access the Internet, corporate data, and premium entertainment content at broadband speeds throughout Upstate New York."
