Verizon cybercrime experts to present at IT security summit
June 25, 2009
Verizon Business and the U.S. Department of Justice experts will speak next Tuesday at the Gartner Information Security Summit to highlight findings from Verizon Business' 2009 Data Breach Investigations Report.
Bryan Sartin, director of investigative response for Verizon Business will share the podium with Kimberly Kiefer Peretti, senior counsel for the computer crime and intellectual property section at the Justice Department criminal division.
Verizon said the presentation will cover recent trends in hacking and other threats targeting public and private-sector organizations. The speakers also will offer recommendations on how organizations can proactively defend against new threats.
Although businesses are susceptible to threats from cybercriminals seeking sensitive information from corporate computer networks, consumers' online security is also increasingly threatened.
Members of online social networks may be more vulnerable to financial loss, identity theft and malware infection than they realize, particularly users of the younger generation.
According to a survey from Webroot, about 30 percent of all users of social networks have been victimized by cybercriminals, while 40 percent of users 18-29 have been victimized on social networks like Facebook.
