Verizon offers security suite for online tax payment
April 1, 2009
Online security is more important than ever with tax day looming on April 15. As more people file tax returns electronically, Verizon is offering a Verizon internet security suite (VISS) to protect customers from identity theft and fraud.
The Internal Revenue Service reported that site visits to IRS.gov are up more than 24 percent over last year. More than 138 million taxpayers have already visited the IRS website this year, versus about 111 million from the same period last year.
The VISS includes some features not found in all off-the-shelf computer-protection software programs, Verizon said. VISS has a large menu of protection services - with updated every few hours - including virus scans, a pop-up blocker, privacy filter, spyware and malware controls.
Verizon said it offers two options for customers to purchase its VISS protection for up to three computers in a customer's home. Customers can order VISS for an annual fee of $59.99 or on a monthly basis for $5.99 per month.
The VISS can be downloaded to a customer's home computer by logging on to the VISS site.
