Verizon Wireless expands V CAST mobile TV to Florida
July 2, 2009
Verizon Wireless announced this week the launch of its V CAST Mobile TV service in South Florida markets including Orlando, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, Tallahassee and Gainesville.
With V CAST Mobile TV, Verizon customers can use their Samsung, Motorola and LG wireless phones to access full-length simulcast and time-shifted programming from cable companies and other video entertainment providers, for rates from $13 to $25 per month.
V CAST Mobile TV also comes with parental control features, so parents can monitor and restrict what their children view.
The change-over to digital TV on June 12 opened up wireless spectrum for an expansion of wireless broadband services like mobile TV.
AT&T announced earlier this month that it plans to expand its mobile TV offerings in an additional 20 markets, some of which will place it in direct competition with Verizon.
New markets in the AT&T mobile TV footprint include cities in Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, North Carolina and the Northeast for a total of more than 80 markets.
