March 30, 2009
Some classic films from the golden age of Hollywood will be made available on DVD and digital downloads for the first time, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group (WBHEG), a division of Time Warner, announced.
The company said the Warner archive collection will initially offer 150 titles never before released on DVD and digital downloads consisting of pre-1986 MGM, RKO Radio Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures films.
Available titles include Possessed starring Clark Gable and Joan Crawford; Once Upon a Honeymoon starring Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers; and All Fall Down starring Warren Beatty and Eva Marie Saint.
Going forward, WBHEG will release an additional 20 classic films and television programs each month and more than 300 titles will be available online by the end of the year. A complete list of current titles is available at WarnerArchive.com.
Consumers can purchase a made-to-order DVD of any of their choices for $19.95 per title, plus shipping. The cost for a digital download is $14.95 per title.
"Whether it's an Academy Award-winning classic from Hollywood's golden age, a sci-fi cult favorite from the '70s or a silent rediscovery from the '20s, the Warner Archive Collection has something for everyone," said George Feltenstein of Warner Home Video.
