Wireless convention starts Wednesday in Las Vegas

March 31, 2009

More than 1,000 exhibitors will present innovative wireless products and services on the show floor at International CTIA Wireless 2009 convention, running April 1-3 in Las Vegas.

Wireless broadband providers will be showcasing their upgraded 3G wireless networks, while handset makers like Apple and Research In Motion, makers of the popular iPhone and BlackBerry, will unveil thousands of new mobile applications, or apps.

Former vice president Al Gore will be the keynote speaker on the show’s final day, highlighting the wireless industry’s attempt to link their new technologies to green practices.

Gore has been a tireless advocate for raising awareness on the dangers of global warming. He was the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 and his Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth gave the issue a global audience.

Gore will discuss how wireless can be used to save energy and the broader impact of green business on the economy and the environment.

Other keynote speakers include CEOs Robert Dotson of T-Mobile USA and Ivan Seidenberg of Verizon Communications, along with Mike Lazaridis, president and co-CEO of Research In Motion.

Industry executives will provide perspective and insight on key wireless trends.
